Alan completed the Certified Practising Account (CPA) course on the 7 September 2001, then completed the prescribed course set out by CPA Australia and on the 21 September 2002 he was then issued a Public Practitioners Certificate. Further to this on the 5 July 2004 he was advanced to the status of Fellow Certified Practising Accountant. According to the CPA handbook only people who hold at least 15 years experience in accounting and have been in a responsible executive position my be awarded Fellow status. On the 21 July 2001 he advanced to Fellow on the Australian Institute of Taxation in recognition as being a senior taxation practitioner and on the 1 September 2001 he became a Registered Taxation Agent with the Australian Taxation office.
